Frost Algin came to the throne after his parents destroyed each other and nearly took the Realms down with them. Erasing their memory required him to assume the role of playboy king, who seems to allow the levers of government to be controlled by others. The king’s advisors and subjects demand only two things from him: take a queen and produce an heir. The first is a maze of political slights and expected favors. The latter is something he’d rather not contemplate. When the opportunity to thumb his nose at both presents itself in the form of a determined woman, he exacts an unusual promise. 

A bargain gives Frost some breathing room from the court. Or so he thought. 

A cold, dark season will shed unexpected light on long-held resentments and dangerous tensions. Now the bargain they’ve made may be all that keeps the kingdom safe. But what will protect their hearts?
